Frequently Asked Questions

Is my information secure?

Yes. Our online giving platform is secure and designed to protect your personal and financial information.

Do I have to give?

Whether you give or not, you are welcome here.  Does God expect me to give?  Yes.  Not because God is poor, and we need to bail Him out.  But because God knows that by giving, it attaches our heart to Him.

Jesus pointed out this truth when he declared, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

Generosity is the most tangible way our heart gets connected to God.  Do you have to give?  No.  Is giving spiritually necessary and important?  For my spiritual formation and growth, the answer is a resounding, “Yes!”

Can I set up recurring giving?

Yes. Many people choose to give regularly as part of their worship and ongoing commitment to God's work through the local church.

Are my gifts tax-deductible?

Yes. Encounter Church is a registered nonprofit organization, and all eligible gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Annual giving statements are provided for your records.

Where does my giving go?

Your generosity supports the everyday ministry and mission of Encounter Church. It helps provide places for people to worship, grow as disciples, serve our community, invest in the next generation, support missions, care for those in need, and share the hope of Jesus with others.

We are committed to stewarding every gift with integrity, wisdom, and transparency.

What is a tithe?

The word “tithe” was used in the Old Testament to describe the giving of ten percent of what Abraham had acquired to Melchizedek (Genesis 14:20).  Abraham’s grandson, Jacob, followed that example of giving a tenth of what he possessed to God (Genesis 28:22).  Under the Mosaic Law tithing became formalized, supporting the Levites, religious worship, and care for the poor (Leviticus 27:30, Deuteronomy 14:28-29, Malachi 3:8-10).

Though a 10% requirement is not explicitly repeated or commanded in the New Testament, the Apostle Paul emphasized that giving should not be done “reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)

We believe that tithing is a good “baseline” for giving generously and sacrificially.  It should be a spiritual discipline, and it should produce within us a spirit of joy.

We believe that the posture of the heart is more important than the amount that is given.  Giving should reflect our trust in God’s provision, rather than anxiety about scarcity.  Sacrificial, faithful giving teaches us trust, dependence, faith, and discipline.

Together, these practices generate a heart of love for God and others - which are the greatest commandments!

What is an offering?

An offering is any gift given beyond the tithe. It's a voluntary act of generosity that supports ministry, missions, outreach, and special opportunities God places before the church.
